The current reply code for 553. is a bit vague. Probably 50% of all returned 553's nowadays is not 'mailbox/recipient doesn't exist, but 'relaying denied'.
suggestion: change 553:"Requested action not taken: mailbox name not allowed " "[E.g., mailbox syntax incorrect]",
to
553:"Requested action not taken: recipient address does not" "exist or relaying denied",
Might save someone else half an hour of figuring out why a mailtag doesn't work.. :-)
